What is a wagyu burger?

Wagyu burger

Wagyu refers to the meat used within the burger. The name Wagyu actually means Japanese cow, as this is where this special breed of cattle originated from.

Originally, Wagyu burgers were made with beef from cattle that has been raised in Japan using traditional methods. The cattle tend to be free roaming and are fed a special diet, which results in their high body fat percentage creating a super tender meat.

Originally used as draft animals, the Wagyu were known for their physical endurance. It was eventually discovered that this physical endurance was due to their high percentage of intra-muscular fat cells which not only made the cattle strong, but meant their meat was also of great quality.

With the meat becoming increasingly popular in the western world, these cattle are now raised and sold around the world. The specialised and unique method of raising Wagyu cattle, combined with their individual genetic makeup, creates a meat which is of the highest gourmet quality and is world renowned.

Why is a wagyu burger better?

The meat is well-known for it's high quality and unique flavour which sets it apart from other types of beef. The intense richness of the meat makes for a much tastier burger, which requires much less seasoning than your standard processed patty.

The marbling you find within the meat, creates a soft and tender steak. When ground down into a burger, the result is a soft and buttery texture which creates a burger superior to a regular beef burger.

The high concentration of monounsaturated fats and Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids compared to other beef is what gives Wagyu its buttery texture.

This high fat content doesn't mean Wagyu is bad for your diet, in-fact the burger does actually come with some positive benefits! The omega acids provide benefits such as improving eye health, aiding muscle and joint health and reducing the risk of heart attack. The wagyu burger also tends to have lower cholesterol content than your regular burger too!
